Denny’s Hours

Denny’s is an American table service diner-style restaurant chain (also known as Denny’s Diner on some of the destinations’ signboards).

It runs more than 1,700 U.S. restaurants. Denny’s is now known for being open and offering breakfast, lunch, and dining all day long, but initially, it opened as a coffee shop under the name Danny’s Donuts.

On holidays and nights, Denny’s does not close, except where it is required by law. Many of the restaurants are situated near the exits of the freeway, bars, and areas with in-service facilities. In 1963, Denny’s began franchising, and most Denny’s restaurants are now owned by franchisees.

History

Harold Butler and Richard Jezak – Denny’s founders – opened Danny’s Donuts in Lakewood, California, in 1953. Danny’s Donuts was later renamed Danny’s Coffee Shops, and its service was changed to 24 hours a day. In 1959, Butler changed the name from Danny’s Coffee Shops to Denny’s Coffee Shops to avoid confusion with the Los Angeles restaurant chain Coffee Dan’s. Finally, Denny’s Coffee Shops was renamed Denny’s in 1961.

For decades, Denny’s has been popular for their being open all 365 days of the year for 24-hour a day—if you want to eat late at night on a Sunday, Denny’s has you covered.

But it took a few years for the problem with this strategy to reveal itself when almost all of Denny’s locations closed for Christmas Day in 1988, and several shops discovered that they had no keys, or even locks, since they never used them. All told, for that holiday, 700 of the 1221 restaurants wanted to have new locks.

Key Facts

In two class action cases against Denny, African American consumers, including six secret agents, joined together. Denny’s restaurant workers were accused of “displacing black customers, segregating white black from white customers, using racial epithets, failing to propose advertised specials to black customers, and attempting to decrease the number of black customers at any time. Denny’s spent 54 million dollars to settle this lawsuit.

When the company opened its location in 2013 on Vegas’ historic Fremont Street, they wanted to change it up to local culture. In the beginning, they designed it in conformity with the current architecture of the neon signs, curves, and steel. Afterward, a wedding chapel was added.

Mission and vision

In 1994 Denny’s became Save the Children’s charity’s biggest corporate sponsor. Not by accident; that was the year when their racial discrimination cases were resolved.

Official papers also published that partnering with the charity was a mutually beneficial way: Denny’s could re-establish its reputation, and Save the Children could tell many people about its mission. Although the partnership helped improve Denny’s reputation, it is difficult to disagree with the philanthropy of this organization.

Along with Save the Children, Denny’s established a campaign called “Hungry for Education,” partnered with a regional United Way chapter near their head office, and collected money for the Miami-based Tour de Forces organization, which is part of the Save the Children project.
