History
In the 1930s, in the city of Long Beach and Orange County, Marie Callender and her husband, Cal Warren Callender, started to sell their pies.
They sold their family car in 1948, and they used this money to establish with their son, Don, a wholesales bakery. The first pie and coffee shop was opened by Marie’s family in 1964. It was extended to twelve more locations in five years and opened its first sites in 1969 outside California (Las Vegas and Houston).
By the end of the 1970s, it rose to 84 points. Their loyal customers enjoyed the soothing, handmade touches in every service. The business developed into a chain—and into today’s food and dessert available in supermarkets.

Business Directions
An average Marie Callender’s restaurant proposes alcoholic drinks, with a full stock bar or lounge. This goes against family restaurants such as Denny and Village Inn, where alcohol is usually not served. Another staple is a salad bar.
While many of the dishes are prepared similar to those Italian, French and Mexican, Chinese and Cajun, and the rest are primarily of the American cuisine. Soups and sandwiches can be enjoyed as meals or à la carte. Pies are the dessert menu’s signature items: more than 30 varieties are available.
The interior of the early restaurants of the chain was decorated with antiquities around 1900, which remind us of Victorian England and the USA. Later restaurants with a clean interior and pictures of food represent more modern tastes.
