History

Ruby Tuesday was started by Samuel E. (Sandy) Beall III in 1972. Beall had an idea that would later lead to the formation of one of America’s favorite foodservice brands. His vision was to build a restaurant where food and drinks were both fresh, full of quality ingredients, full of flavor, and handcrafted.

His goal was to have the food and drinks served to customers by passionate, friendly and caring people. He also wanted to create a place that was comfortable and casual, but still looked great. The idea was so special and unique that it required him and his special team to invent and work on it themselves.

The first restaurant was situated near the University of Tennessee. This later grew to more than 600 restaurants in the United States and across the world. Ruby Tuesday became a public foodservice company in 1982. In 1996, it was made a publicly traded company. It would soon join the list of some of the most beloved and well-known brands for casual dining in America.

Today, Ruby Tuesday still upholds its founding philosophy of providing quality food and beverages. It also prides itself in having the food served by passionate people. It has a rich history and a future that remains committed to making sure each guest is thoroughly delighted and satisfied with every visit.
