History
Fallas’ parent company, National Stores Inc., was started by Joseph Fallas in a downtown store in Los Angeles as Fallas Paredes in 1962. In 2001, it acquired 31 Weiner’s stores after the latter went bankrupt.
Three years later, it bought Factory 2-U Stores Inc. after it also filed for bankruptcy. Conway Stores was acquired a year later followed by the takeover of Anna’s Linens. The intellectual property obtained required some of the stores to still operate under the name Anna’s Linens.
In a bid to create a more centralized location, National Stores signed a 10-year lease in 2016 that was worth $26 million. This allowed it to relocate its distribution center from Otay Mesa to Perris, California.
It operated subsidiaries under the names Fallas, Fallas Discount Stores, Fallas Paredes, Factory 2-U, Falas (Puerto Rico), CW Price and Conway Wiener’s. National Stores Inc. later filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2018. Hilco Merchant Resources took up the responsibility of supervising the closure of several stores and also ran sales at 74 of its stores.
Fallas currently runs three subsidiaries – Factory 2-U, J&M Sales, Inc., and FP Stores, Inc. These can be found in more than 200 locations spread across New Mexico, Nevada, Florida, Illinois, Arizona, and Texas. They serve small communities and are conveniently located in downtown, power strips, and specialty centres.
