History
On 17 August 1936, twin brothers Cleo and Leo Stater founded it in Yucaipa, California, when they bought Cleo’s boss W. A. Davis, a deposit of 600 bucks. Cleo remembered that the shop owner across the road from Davis’s offered him an extra US$300 to make a full down payment to the Inland Empire Business Press in 1998. The Stater Bros. was made public in 1964; the now vanquished Long Beach petrol and gas service in 1968 sold Cleo and Leo and their brother Lavoy. Stater Bros owns the chain in its entirety. Holdings have been held by Stater’s late President and CEO Jack H. Brown, a division of La Cadena Investments, since 1986.
During the Albertsons merger with American Stores, which extended the chain to cover new regions, including Lancaster, Palmdale, and San Diego County, Stater acquired 43 plus one of Albertsons’ future Lucky supermarkets in 1999. It was the first prominent domestic company that reached the Fortune 500 in 2006 at #493. In 66, the San Bernardino International Airport headquarters started constructing a 2,000,000 square-foot plant (190,000 m2) at its former site on the border with the Colton Grand Terrace (formerly the Norton Air Force Base). Stater sold the pharmaceutical company SuperRX to CVS in 2018.
Stores in Los Angeles and Orange Counties are mostly in towns east of the San Gabriel River. Few of these sites are also found in northern regions such as Santa Clarita and Palman, in San Diego County, and some north of Los Angeles County. In Ventura City, Simi Valley, there is also one store, and the other in Pasadena, which opened in 2018. In Ridgecrest and Mojave, there are two stores in Kern City. They are, though, highly based in San Bernardino and Riverside counties within their home empire base.
As President of the Group, Jack H. Brown entered Stater Bros. in 1981. For 35 years, he worked as CEO and Chairman. Pete Van Helden was appointed Chairman and CEO in January 2016, and Brown became Executive Director. Brown passed away on 13 November 2016.
On December 12, former CFO Phillip J. Smith was elected chairman. Smith was also elected chairman, president and CEO of Stater Bros. Holdings.
