What is the history of this campus recreation center?

In 1977, the Student Athletic Center (SAC) was built on the current site of Georgia Tech’s athletic center. The Aquatic Center was built next to the SAC in 1997. Georgia Tech was selected as the Olympic aquatic venue in 1996, and the Aquatic Center was erected adjacent to the SAC. The Aquatic Center, which cost $16.8 million to construct, included competitions in swimming, synchronized swimming, diving, water polo, and the swimming component of the modern pentathlon event.

This was one of the first Olympic training sites constructed on a college campus, and it was the first such facility to be built specifically for women’s swimming. Students liked the idea of having an Olympic-caliber facility on campus, and they were able to use it for their own recreation and fitness activities.

The Aquatic Center, which was first built to serve as a venue for the Olympic Games, has since been renovated and now serves as a recreational facility for Georgia Tech students and faculty. The original stadium was outdoor with only a roof to protect spectators from rain; however, between 2001 and 2003, renovations enclosed the center completely.

After 2005, CRC became the main recreation facility on campus, providing students with a place to work out, play sports, and relax. CRC has two main floors of fitness equipment, an indoor track, an outdoor pool, and multiple courts for basketball, volleyball, badminton, and other various sports.

The Campus Recreation Center (CRC) is the main recreation facility on the Georgia Tech campus. It opened in 2005 and replaced the Student Athletic Center (SAC) as the primary athletic facility on campus. The CRC is home to a variety of recreational activities and programs for students, faculty, and staff.

The Olympic pool was expanded above in an upper floor of multipurpose courts that were hung from the roof, establishing a new world record for the largest concrete structure suspended. It was now known as the Campus Recreation Center, or CRC, which you know and love today.
