The history behind Tractor Supply
In 1938 Charles Schmidt and his son-in-law, Arthur Brown founded the Schmidt and Brown Hardware Company in Minot, North Dakota. The company specialized in providing farmers and ranchers with equipment, tools, and supplies to help them succeed. In the early days, the store was open only during the summer months when farmers needed to buy supplies for their crops and livestock.
In 1946, the Schmidts and Browns opened the second store in Bismarck, North Dakota.
