History
In 1958, in Denver, Colorado, the first Village Inn Pancake House opened its doors and brought us what has made us known ever since — butterfly pancakes, freshly fried eggs, whispery bacon, and a steamed coffee pot.
People in Denver have stopped for a bite and enjoyed it more than once at the Village Inn, and before leaving, they asked about franchise opportunities. This has led Merton “Andy” Anderson and Jim Mola to put an ad for prospective franchisees in The Wall Street Journal.
In 1961, the first franchise Village Inn began to operate, which significantly contributed to the franchise’s successful creation.

In December 1959, Mola Anderson joined the Village Inn Pancake House, Inc., which opened its first franchise offices in Tampa in 1961 with the establishment of Dow Sherwood.
In 1982, Village Inn became VICORP Restaurants, Inc. Publicly traded. In May 1983 in Pillsbury, VICORP bought the Poppin’ Fresh Pies chain, renaming it Bakers Square. In compliance with Chapter 11 of the federal bankruptcy code, VICORP filed a bankruptcy application on the 3rd of April 2008. During the procedure, the VICORP closed a total of 343 Village Inn and Bakers Square restaurants in 56 company-owned restaurants.
Village Inn closed 24 sites on the 24th of January 2020, and workers arrived at locked doors to their shifts. On the 27th of January 2020, after closing a total of 33 sites in both brands for the Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, the United States Blue Ribbon Properties, VillageInn, and Bakers Square parent company, filed for Chapter 11. Village Inn emerges as a subsidiary of the re-organized parent firm, VIBSQ Holdings LLC, from the bankruptcy protection with 140 locations on the 14th of September, 2020.
