History
The company was founded in the metropolitan area of New York, Wayne, New Jersey in April 1948 by Charles Lazarus. In June 1957 he has given it a modern look. In 1948, Lazarus also started a furniture store for children and initially simply attached toys as gifts.
During the baby boom in the post-war era, he received requests for toys for babies as well as for older children from his customers. In June 1957, the store changed its focus from children’s furniture to toys and opened the first Toy R Us toy store in Rockville, Maryland. The logo of Toys R Us was also designed and styled by Lazarus to make it look like written by a child. From 1969 to 1989 the original design of its logo included vertical stripes of the rainbow with brown roof, front entrance, and side exit.
