The story behind Oxford Valley Mall
The Oxford Valley Mall, located in the northern part of Oxford, Mississippi, was built by The Kravco Company and opened in 1973. The original center court featured a large fountain with seating areas. The food court was added in the late 1980s. A new addition, called the “New Court”, opened in 1993 and included a new food court, a Montgomery Ward department store, and a two-level JCPenney.
In 1989, after Stern’s closed several stores in the Philadelphia region, it was replaced by Sears. In 1998, the Montgomery Ward department store closed and was replaced by Macy’s. In 2006, JCPenney expanded its store. The mall is currently anchored by Dillard’s, JCPenney, Macy’s, Nordstrom Rack, Sears, and Von Maur.
The mall was developed during 2007-2012. An H&M store opened in the former Montgomery Ward location in November 2007. In early 2008, a Saltgrass Steak House opened in the former Chi-Chi’s Mexican restaurant. A Forever 21 store opened in the former Stern’s department store in September 2008. An Apple Store opened on October 24, 2009, taking up space that had been vacant since the closure of Contempo Casuals in 2006.
In March 2010, it was announced that Bath & Body Works would be relocating to a larger space in the mall. As part of this move, their current location would be divided to make room for Ryko Japan, which opened in October 2010. In May 2010, Victoria’s Secret relocated to a larger space within the mall.
