What is the history of Haywood Mall?
In 1978, Haywood Mall was built to take the place of an existing shopping center called Whitestone Plaza. Haywood Mall is a large and popular mall in Greenville, South Carolina that features many stores and restaurants. In August 1979, Meyers-Arnold announced that they would be opening a 20,000-square-foot store in Haywood Mall, near the Sears.
In 1980, Haywood Mall opened with Belk-Simpson, Rich’s, Sears, and J. C. Penney as anchors, as well as Meyers-Arnold as a junior anchor. The movie theater originally in the mall was closed and replaced by a food court. In 1992, the former Meyers-Arnold space became Steve & Barry’s University Sportswear.
At the end of the 1990s, Haywood Mall went through a $70 million renovation that added a food court, updated the interior and exterior of the mall, and added more than 50 new stores. In 2003, Steve & Barry’s University Sportswear closed.
