History of Gold’s Gym
Considered as the Mecca for bodybuilders, Gold Gym provided homemade equipment to his customers like Arnold Schwarzenegger. His Pumping Iron made the Gold gym incredibly popular not only among bodybuilders but also attracted the general public. Nowadays this gym has achieved exceptional recognition among bodybuilders.
But things were not so great at the start as Gold Gym was struggling to get the clientele and was sold to an antique dealer and a jeweler (Bud Danits and Dave Saxe) in 1970. After running the gym for nearly two years they decided to open an antique shop instead. They sold the equipment and name of the gym to one of its members, Ken Sprague by the end of 1971. Sprague held and sponsored competitions for bodybuilders and was able to establish it with the help of his contacts in the film industry and outstanding promotional skills.
Today it has over 700 fitness centers and over 2 million customers across the world. In 2017, the company launched a fitness app Gold’s Amp to provide a digital trainer to all people using it anywhere and any time.
