The brief story behind Genesis
Genesis Health Club opened in 1986, in a single location on the west side of Wichita, Kansas. A husband and wife team, Jerry and Kathy Klinedinst, founded the company with a simple mission: to provide quality fitness facilities and programs that help people improve their lives.
In 1994 Rodney Steven II bought out the business, and Genesis began its journey to becoming the largest health club chain in Kansas. In the years that followed, Rodney Steven II grew the company to over 30 locations. In 1996 and 1998 the East and West Central Genesis Health Clubs were opened in Wichita. The first club outside of Wichita was opened in Salina, Kansas in 1999.
Genesis made its most significant acquisition to date in February, 2001, when it purchased the Wichita Racquet Club for $6 million. The desire to expand further east in Wichita presented itself after looking at alternatives of growth and with the aim of going farther. This was a step in the right direction for the company and showed its commitment to the Wichita market. In 2002, three more locations were opened in Wichita, two on the west side and one on the east side.
Genesis Fitness has been a staple on the Rochester, New York landscape for more than 15 years, and in that time, it’s experienced several modifications and improvements. For instance, new locker rooms were built several years later as well as an added studio that now houses Genesis’ own heart rate interval training workout, All American Training. Renovations to the third floor also created a vast private Pilates training studio and a barre studio.
After Genesis acquired Walburn’s Fitness & Wellness in February 2010, they opened the seventh branch in Emporia, KS.
