History

Fred G. Meyer, the pioneer at Fred Meyer was a retailer filled with great ideas. He wanted to make his company for customers a one-stop shopping point. Besides, he was also interested in philosophy, semantics, teaching. The Wall Street Journal had given him the epithet ‘The Last of the great American entrepreneurs.’

Mr. Meyer started the first Fred Meyer store in Portland in 1922. At the time, Mr. Meyer’s vision was to bring customers more sensible reasons to make them buy in his store than just spending money. Customers used to go to different shops for different products. Mr. Meyer kept all the needs of a household under a single roof and vested this all to a responsible expert. This was the starting point for Fred Meyer store that is known today. It has an average area of 150,000 square feet and offers more than 225,000 items.

  1. Good fill-in for the basics for all Hawthorne’s modern, trendy, local and fun shops. Did anyone tell here they needed clothes? Move one block and join your residents and antique shops for that. Come to get a last minute hacksaw and a new and amazing wide range of food. Have some sushi conveyor belt while you are there.

  2. I believe that the arrangement is weird, and hipster parents let their children put their fingers into the food, and salad bar stuff is nasty. The staff fear that they may not fully fit in so they don’t say anything to the brats (referring to their parents). BUT the choice of organic products and other healthier choices makes it worth it entirely if you don’t mind hipsters, pushovers, hippies and yuppies.
