History
Donald Lamberti rented his father’s station in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1959. His fuel supplier and friend Kurvin C, after successfully restructured the station, and after that, the convenience store worked for nine years. (KC) Fish suggested buying a service station in Boone, Iowa, from the Square Deal Oil Company.
Lamberti followed the advice of Fish and bought the station, which, as with his rented store, had turned into a convenience shop and called “Casey’s” after Fish. The Boone logo is the same logo that Casey’s Chain uses today. Boone’s store (in a town of just 12,500) was fine, so Lamberti wanted to check if his performance could be doubled.
In Creston, Iowa (7,000 people), he founded a new shop, and that shop was nice as well. In Waukee, a small town of Iowa (1500 inhabitants at the time), Lamberti was more ambitious and wanted to open a shop from scratch.
Lamberti wanted to buy and open more shops with a focus on towns of less than 5,000 people (a shift in the strategies used in the early success of Wal-Mart). The shop was the most profitable of all three.
